The easiest homemade Mulled Wine made with festive and warming spices, clementines, and a splash of amaretto liqueur. This recipe is so easy to make, ready in 10 minutes and tastes divine. Buon Natale!
Mulled wine, also known as Glühwein in Germany or Vin Brulé in Italy is the ultimate way to stay warm, cosy and merry when it's freezing cold outside.
Whenever we visit Christmas markets we always have a hot mug of mulled wine in hand to keep us warm, watching the twinkling lights and listening to the festive music.
And although you can buy it ready-made in bottles it's so much better and easy to make from scratch at home! We love to add a cheeky splash of amaretto liqueur in too which adds sweetness but that's totally optional!
It's the solid way to get into the festive spirit!

Top tips and recipe FAQs
- Wine – Don't use expensive red wine for this a low cost dry red wine is fine.
- Sugar – We use light brown sugar because we love the caramelised flavour but regular white sugar or honey will also work well!
- Spices – use whole spices and not powder.
Other spices that you can add to mulled wine are juniper berries (2 berries are enough), cardamom pods and pepper corns. You can also add a splash of liqueur such as brandy, cognac or amaretto or juice such as cherry, apple or orange juice.
How long does it last?Homemade mulled wine will keep well for 1 week. remove the spices and clementines if keeping longer than 1 day or it'll be too strongly infused.
Can we re-heat it more than once?Absolutely, you can reheat the mulled wine as many times as you like make sure you don't boil it.
